Statue of Liberty

Liberty Island, New York Harbor, USA

Presented to America by the people of France in 1886, the statue sits on 12-acre Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It is just over 305 feet tall from the ground to the top of the torch flame.

*

French sculptor Frederic Bartholdi collaborated with French engineer Gustave Eiffel to create the statue. They designed the massive structure using thin pounded copper sheets covering a steel framework. Eiffel, also responsible for Paris’ Eiffel Tower, created the frame of the statue. Its design and construction were considered an engineering masterpiece of the 19th century.

*

Notes: The Statue of Liberty used to have a reddish-brown color. The green coloring results from the effects of weather conditions on copper. The 7 spikes on the Statue of Liberty's crown represent the 7 oceans and the 7 continents of the world, indicating the universal concept of liberty.

Trumpeter Draped, Atelier, 2014 (Bronze) - one of the iconic sculptures by Richard MacDonald. With the quintessential expression of genre: Joie de Vivre (Joy of Life), Trumpeter Draped Atelier draws us into the spirit of the music she plays, and the lilting dance she weaves. The Trumpeter represents the very embodiment of joy. With a thousand nuances of form, from her outstretched fingers to the carefree tilt of her head, she conveys a sense of youth and hope that vibrates like the imaginary notes of music she plays. It is this rare, lighthearted playfulness that sets the Trumpeter apart and conveys joy with elegant simplicity.

Notes: Richard MacDonald is one of today’s foremost figurative sculptors. Having been featured in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions worldwide, his figurative sculpture is collected by people from all walks of life – from aspiring aficionados to celebrities and heads of state. Notes: If you visit Harvard, you just have to see the statue of John Harvard outside University Hall. The John Harvard statue is probably the most touched object in the University. Its left foot is subjected to almost incessant rubbing by tourists who believe that the act brings good luck. Every student touches the shoes of this state before beginning his curriculum.

*

However this statue is known as the statue of 3 lies:
1. This is not John Harvard
- his face and body structure may not be of John Harvard as no actual picture of him was available. This is based on imagination.
2. John Harvard is not the founder of the university.
- the school had already been established. He just donated his library and some funds so they renamed the school after him.
3. Harvard was not founded in 1638.
- it gives the founding date as 1638 - that is an error since it was founded 1636.
